The route on the map
The plan, day by day
Day 1Arrival on the Red Sea
Arrival in Hurghada
Hotel check-in
Stay in Sekalla, the hotel and nightlife district between Sheraton Road and the beach, from where every dive centre is ten minutes away.
Hurghada Marina
The marina with its promenade, dive boats at the jetty and views of the mainland mountains — many of the dive trips depart from here.
Evening: Marina Boulevard
The marina's waterfront promenade is lit up in the evening, and cafés and shisha terraces stay open late.
Day 2Snorkelling day off the Giftun Islands
Sindbad Marina
The departure point for day boats in the south of Sekalla, where fins, masks and life jackets are handed out.
Fanous West reef
A shallow coral field with individual ergs, where clownfish and lionfish hover just two metres below the surface.
Orange Bay
The sandy bay at the northern tip of Giftun Kebir, with turquoise shallows and a reef edge right off the beach.
El Fanadir reef
The long fringing reef north of Hurghada drops off steeply on its eastern side — good views of table corals and parrotfish.
Evening: Papas Bar in Sekalla
The oldest pub in town, on Sheraton Road, where the dive guides meet after the last boat.
Day 3Two dives: Abu Ramada & Turtle Bay
Emperor Divers Hurghada
Briefing, equipment check and tank hand-out at the dive centre in the marina before the boat heads south.
Abu Ramada South dive
The southern part of the island, with coral towers from 12 metres, shoals of glassfish and regular eagle rays in the blue.
Turtle Bay dive
A shallow sandy bottom with seagrass on the west side of Giftun Kebir, where green turtles and blue-spotted stingrays graze.
Evening: Senzo Mall
An air-conditioned mall on the bypass with a cinema, supermarket and food court — open until midnight.
Day 4A day ashore in Hurghada
El Dahar Souk
The bazaar lanes of the old town with spice stalls, tin jugs and tailors — the part of Hurghada where the locals themselves shop.
Hurghada Grand Aquarium
Tanks and tunnels with Red Sea marine life, sharks and a replica wreck — good preparation for the species you'll see underwater.
Hurghada Museum
Opened in 2020 on the road to the airport, the collection shows finds from the Pharaonic era through to the Coptic period.
Evening: El Mina Mosque by the sea
The large twin-minaret mosque by the harbour is floodlit at night, with a broad square in front for sitting.
Day 5Moving to El Gouna
Onward to El Gouna
Hotel check-in
Abu Tig Marina
El Gouna's marina with whitewashed arcades, dive centres and boats setting off for the northern reefs.
Tamr Henna Square
The central square of Downtown El Gouna, with a bakery, a bookshop and shade beneath the arcades.
Zeytuna Beach
The sandy beach on the offshore island, reached by shuttle, with calm shallow water for unwinding after dive days.
Evening: bars at Abu Tig Marina
The harbour front fills up after sunset; live music and terraces right on the water until after midnight.
Day 6Dive day at Shaab El Erg
TGI Diving El Gouna
Dive centre on the marina jetty: load your gear on board, a briefing on the reef layout, then out to the north-east.
Shaab El Erg dive
The horseshoe-shaped reef with a sandy lagoon where spinner dolphins regularly rest — the dive follows the outer edge over coral blocks.
Mangroovy Beach
The kitesurfing and swimming beach in the north of El Gouna, with a shallow lagoon, sunloungers and a view of the reef's surf line.
Evening: Moods Beach Bar
A beach bar with fire pits in the sand and views across the lagoon, the quietest spot in El Gouna in the evening.
Day 7Last morning and departure
El Gouna Museum
A small museum on the edge of town with replicas of famous finds from every era, which you can see in just under an hour.
Kafr El Gouna
The craft village with Nubian-style mud façades, silversmiths and shops selling spices and textiles.
Departure from Hurghada
