Day 1Arriving in the Bay of Kotor

Day 2Boka Kotorska: fortress, fjord and Perast
San Giovanni Fortress
1350 steps lead past the church of Gospa od Zdravlja to the mountain fortress, with views over the whole inner bay.
Maritime Museum of Montenegro
In the Grgurina Palace, ship models, sea charts and captains' portraits tell the story of the bay's merchant fleet.
Perast
A single street of Baroque captains' houses along the water, crowned by the bell tower of Sveti Nikola.
Our Lady of the Rocks (Gospa od Škrpjela)
The artificial island off Perast holds a church with 68 Baroque paintings by Tripo Kokolja and an embroidered altarpiece made with human hair.

After sunset the two islands lie illuminated off the quay wall where the boats tie up.
Day 3Lovćen and the old royal capital
Serpentine viewpoint over the bay
Halfway up the 25 hairpins of the old Kotor–Cetinje road, the view drops straight down onto the old town and the fjord.
Njegoš Mausoleum on Lovćen
461 steps in a tunnel lead to the tomb of the poet-prince at 1657 metres, with a circular terrace overlooking half of Montenegro beyond.
Njeguši
Home village of the Petrović dynasty, where Montenegrin pršut ham and cheese in oil mature in the smokehouses.
Cetinje Monastery
The monastery of 1701 displays the right hand of St John the Baptist and a fragment of the True Cross.
King Nikola Museum
The last king's residence, with armoury, billiard room and family portraits, has remained almost unchanged since 1918.

In the evening, walk between the Sea Gate and the marina along the illuminated city walls reflected in the water.
Day 4Budva and the Riviera

The fortress at the southern tip of the old town houses a library of sea charts and a walled terrace above the bay.
Sveti Stefan

Day 7Mount Dajti and old Tirana
Bunk'Art 1
The five-storey government bunker on the edge of the city with 106 rooms, including Hoxha's untouched study.
Dajti Ekspres
The cable car climbs to 1050 metres in a quarter of an hour, from where the whole plain is visible as far as the Adriatic.
Pazari i Ri
The covered market hall with vegetable stalls, spices and smoked fish, surrounded by bakeries and byrek shops.
National History Museum
Behind the mosaic "The Albanians", the halls lead from Illyrian times via Skanderbeg to the dictatorship.
Grand Park by the Artificial Lake
The city woods south of the centre, with a path around the reservoir and the Presidential Palace on its edge.

Day 9The south of Lake Ohrid
Church of St John at Kaneo
The small domed church stands on a cliff above the water and is the lake's most photographed sight.
Plaošnik and St Clement's Monastery
On the hill lie the tomb of Clement of Ohrid, early Christian floor mosaics and the rebuilt monastery church.
Museum on Water – Bay of Bones
A reconstructed Bronze Age pile-dwelling settlement stands on stilts in the lake, along with a Roman fortification on the shore.
St Naum Monastery
At the southern tip of the lake stand the monastery church with the tomb of St Naum and the springs of the Black Drin, which you explore by rowing boat.
Evening: Ohrid's Čaršija
The old bazaar quarter around the silversmiths and pearl shops stays open until late.
Day 10Farewell to Lake Ohrid

Thirty Byzantine panel icons from the 11th to the 14th century, including the double-sided Virgin Psychosostria.
